GtkMathView v0.1.0 Announcement ------------------------------- I'm glad to announce the first release of GtkMathView, a GTK widget for rendering MathML documents. It is meant to be a standalone, light-weight component and not a full browser. GTK applications can use the widget as a window for displaying mathematical formulas and doing simple interactions. At present, the widget is actively used as part of the HELM project (see http://www.cs.unibo.it/helm). This is both an announcement and a call for contribution. Despite the low-numbered version, the widget recognizes most of MathML 2 (Draft) elements and attributes (actually, only the handling of labeled rows in a table is missing). Here are some of the features of GtkMathView: - breaking of long expressions - support for stretchy operators - configurable support for additional fonts - configurable support for the operator dictionary - configurable support for entities - selection of MathML subtrees However, the code is far from being heavily tested, and I think there are many bugs. For these reasons, anyone interested can contribute with bug reports, suggestions and active development of the code, the documentation, the configuration scripts. With your support, I expect to release the 1.0 version in a few weeks. Here is the home-page of the widget: http://www.cs.unibo.it/~lpadovan/mml-widget/ You will find the source package and the online version of the manual (included in the distribution). The package includes detailed information for compiling and running the widget, as well as the source code of a minimal browser and some (sample) configuration files. To test the widget, write a MathML document (simply enclose a MathML expression within a element) and run the minimal browser on it. (See at the bottom of this file for an example). A note about the license: the widget is covered by the GNU GPL license (NOT the GNU LGPL).
