 Development versions in the VCS include a w for wavefront,
 we do not want it in our SO versions.

 Release 4.4, named 4.4.0puregpl in Debian, carries SO version = 4.4.0.
 GPL 2014 edition, named 4.4.2014 in Debian, can keep it.
