where <code>test</code> returns a single value and <code>form</code> is arbitrary.
Semantically, this call of <code>assert$</code> is equivalent to <code>form</code>.  However,
it causes a hard error (using <code><a href="ILLEGAL.html">illegal</a></code>) if the value of <code>test</code> is
<code>nil</code>.
