<code>(eql x y)</code> is logically equivalent to <code>(equal x y)</code>.
<p>
Unlike <code><a href="EQUAL.html">equal</a></code>, <code>eql</code> has a <a href="GUARD.html">guard</a> requiring at least one of its
arguments to be a number, a symbol, or a character. Generally,
<code>eql</code> is executed more efficiently than <code><a href="EQUAL.html">equal</a></code>.<p>
