<h2>REDEF</h2>a common way to set <a href="LD-REDEFINITION-ACTION.html">ld-redefinition-action</a>
<pre>Major Section:  <a href="MISCELLANEOUS.html">MISCELLANEOUS</a>
</pre><p>

<pre>
Example and General Form:
ACL2 !&gt;:redef
</pre>

This command sets <code><a href="LD-REDEFINITION-ACTION.html">ld-redefinition-action</a></code> to <code>'(:query . :overwrite)</code>.
<p>
As explained elsewhere (see <a href="LD-REDEFINITION-ACTION.html">ld-redefinition-action</a>), this
allows redefinition of functions and other <a href="EVENTS.html">events</a> without undoing.
A query will be made every time a redefinition is <a href="COMMAND.html">command</a>ed; the
user must explicitly acknowledge that the redefinition is
intentional. It is possible to set <code><a href="LD-REDEFINITION-ACTION.html">ld-redefinition-action</a></code> so that
the redefinition of non-system functions occurs quietly.
See <a href="LD-REDEFINITION-ACTION.html">ld-redefinition-action</a>.
