Configure your backup server with
afserverconfig /etc/afbackup/client.conf
or
xafserverconfig /etc/afbackup/client.conf
and / or configure your backup client with
afclientconfig /etc/afbackup/client.conf
or
xafclientconfig /etc/afbackup/client.conf
Explanations of the different parameters can be found in CONFIG. Now the
server and/or client is ready for your backups. Some example
configuration files and helper tools have been installed in the examples
subdirectory. They are provided upstream but not tested by me.
If you use the afclient command directly, be aware that the command does
NOT read the client configuration file. You have to supply all
parameters on the commandline (e.g. backuphost, location of the
cryptkey, etc.). The configuration files are read only by full_backup
and incr_backup.
The file /etc/afbackup/cryptkey is automatically created from
/dev/urandom. If that file already exists
/etc/afbackup/cryptkey.dpkg-dist is created. If your cryptkey is smaller
than 21 bytes it is recommended to rename cryptkey.dpkg-dist to
cryptkey. Do not forget that the cryptkey file must be the same on
client and server.
WARNING:
Starting with version 3.3.7-1 the Debian package is built with DES
encryption support which is more secure but incompatible with older
versions. That is why you have to upgrade all your machines.
