This isn't a proper FAQ, it is a collection of email conversations and
tips from people that have had problems with libaudiooss. As it is a
rather unusual piece of software, you do get usage problems.
Hope the tips below will help some of you :-)

Under KDE, I didn't have system's sounds and some applications did not work
properly. I look at error logs and I see that "kaudioserver" was not
started because he didn't find any device (it was because "AUDIOSERVER"
and LD_PRELOAD were not set. We found a solution with a friend. In
/home/user/Desktop/Autostart copying a script like that will solve the
problem :
export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/X11R6/lib/libaudiooss.so.1.0
export AUDIOSERVER=$DISPLAY
kaudioserver
kwmsound
Enable the system's sounds in kde-control-center and the environment sounds
work perfectly ! :-) Kwav who was running to faster works better with this
to.
It's not a patch but I hope that it will help someone.

There seems to be a problem with connections sometimes. If this happens
to you for no apparent reason - auplay works fine, but an app run under my
lib fails with the error below:
********
eriki@spc107:~/mp3/Blind Guardian - Tokyo Tales$ mpg123 *
High Performance MPEG 1.0/2.0/2.5 Audio Player for Layer 1, 2 and 3.
Version 0.59r (1999/Jun/15). Written and copyrights by Michael Hipp.
Uses code from various people. See 'README' for more!
THIS SOFTWARE COMES WITH ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY! USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!
NAS connection to ?localhost:8000 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).
********
Try the following workaround: start playing a file with auplay. Then
try your app again. When you hear that the other app gets its sound
mixed in, kill auplay.
Could anyone explain the whys of this to me?
