Building Python Extension Modules
</H1>
<P>
SIDL creates a <TT>setup.py</TT> file that can be used to build the
Python extension modules that you create. <TT>setup.py</TT> uses the
Python distutils package to build the Python extension modules. There
are two extra command line arguments.
<P>
<UL>
<LI><TT>-include-dirs=</TT> --
Use this to specify extra directories for the preprocessor
include path. This is like <TT>-I</TT> for most C compilers.
</LI>
<LI><TT>-library-dirs=</TT> --
Use this to specific extra directories for static or shared
libraries. This is like <TT>-L</TT> for most C compilers/loaders.
</LI>
</UL>
<P>
Normally, you need to specify the directory where the SIDL runtime
headers and SIDL Python headers are stored with
<TT>-include-dirs=</TT>. You also need to specify the directory where
<TT>libsidl.so</TT> is stored.
Here is a hypothetical example:
<BLOCKQUOTE>
<TT> setup.py -include-dirs=/usr/local/include
<BR> -include-dirs=/usr/local/include/python
<BR> -library-dirs=/usr/local/lib build_ext -inplace
</TT></BLOCKQUOTE>It is unlikely that any installation actually uses those settings.
