Basic-256 draait bovenop een operating systeem (bestuursysteem) die ervoor zorgt dat je iets ziet, dat je iets met je computer kan doen. De volgende opdrachten laten toe om vanuit basic-256 een aantal elementen van het berstuursysteem te gebruiken.
