<p>This dialog lets you see all the ports on your machine and you
can select the one you wish to use.  The bottom half shows more details
about the selected port.

<p>Note that only ports listed as available will actually be usable by
BitPim.  Other ports may be in use by other programs (such as Palm 
HotSync or ActiveSync).  They may also be switched off for the moment.
For example, if you have a USB to serial cable and it is not plugged
in, then the port details will show up, but it will be listed as
not active.  Plugging the cable in will make it active.
