bzip2 for Debian
----------------

The archive file format of bzip2 (.bz2) is incompatible with that of its
predecessor, bzip (.bz). If you need to extract old *.bz files,
please also install the Debian package "bzip".

For more information about bzip2, please visit its home page at:
    http://www.muraroa.demon.co.uk/

Another note: If you wish to do "file somefile.bz2", you might find the
following magic numbers helpful:

#------------------------------------------------------------------------------
# bzip & bzip2
0	string BZ bzip compressed file
>2	string h - bzip2 format
>2	string 0 - old (obsolete) bzip format
>3	byte x - Blocksize: %c00 K

These values were copied from a helpful message in the linux-kernel
mailing list. However, they are not "official" and might change
in the near future before making their way into the Debian /etc/magic
file. Until then, experiment and have fun! :-)
