The beginning

Everything has

One of my
main reasons for starting to write CamStream was the lack of any easy to use
tool for webcamming. Now "easy to use" is one of the most abused
terms in software speak, but in this case I was very clear about it: I
wanted a GUI application, where I could just pick a webcam from a list, get
a picture and adjust all settings from popup dialogs etc. No command line
options, no cryptic key codes to adjust brightness, change picture size,
etc. Just go clickety-click and have results [1].

1: Part of my motivation is also to make Linux easier on the
desktop. Mind you, I'm Linux power user and developer; I know all the
command line options of 'ls', write my own kernel modules and compile
everything from source. Yet I notice a disturbing lack of programs that would
make Linux so much more fun for Joe Average User.
