Some messages are recognized by cwdaemon as special messages. Such
messages start with 'ESC' character - ASCII character equal 27. ESC
character is treated as special only when it is the first character in
the message. Handling of ESC character on any other position in the
message, and handling of multiple ESC characters in single message, is
unspecified.
For the purpose of this document the following meta characters,
denoting boundaries of entities, will be used:

They are used only in this documentation, and are not a part of real
message.
Escape codes recognized by cwdaemon, their exact format, and behaviour
of cwdaemon is specified below.
Every message sent to cwdaemon can contain zero or one escape code.
Any additional content of a message that follows valid escape code and
its allowed value, may be silently ignored by cwdaemon.
<ESC>"0"
Reset parameters of cwdaemon to default values. The user-visible
parameters that are being reset are following:
parameter 1, parameter 2, parameter 3. TBD
<ESC>"2"<"speed value">
Set keying speed to given value, in wpm. Allowed values are between 4
and 60, inclusive. Values outside of the range are silently ignored.
<ESC>"3"<"tone value">
Set frequency of side tone, in Hz. Allowed values are between 1 and
4000, inclusive. Values outside of this range are silently ignored.
Value equal zero has a special meaning, described below.
<ESC>"3"<"0">
Turn side tone off. A special case of the previous escape code. The
difference is that value '0' sets volume of sound, and not its
frequency, to zero. You have to use 'g' escape code to set volume of
sound to non-zero value.

Abort message.

Set state of PTT pin on PC hardware port to off ("0") or on ("1").
This escape code manipulates state of PTT pin "on request", as opposed
to manipulating the PTT pin "automatically" and "by footswitch".
"Automatic" and "by footswitch" modes are described elsewhere, but you
have to remember that they also affect state of PTT pin.
There is a delay between turning PTT on and start of keying HAM
transceiver by cwdaemon. This is a "PTT delay" parameter that can be
altered with 'd' escape code.

SSB signal from microphone or soundcard.

Tune for x seconds, i.e. turn PTT on, key continuous tone for x
seconds, turn PTT off. Allowed values of x are between 0 and 10.
Values outside of this range are silently ignored.
<ESC>"d"<"delay">
Set value of "PTT delay" parameter, in milliseconds. Allowed values
are between 0 and 50. Values outside of this range are silently
ignored.
Check ptt_specification.txt to see how "PTT delay" affects working of
cwdaemon.
FIXME: code in cwdaemon.c allows values out of range. Make the
behaviour consistent with other options (silently ignore) or add
exception?
<ESC>"e"<"bandindex">
Band info output on pins 2, 7, 8, 9 of the parport (pin 2 = lsb, 9 =
msb, e.g. 1000 = 160m, 1001 = 10m).

<ESC>"f"<"sound system">
Set sound system used by cwdaemon. "sound system" is one, single
letter, from list presented below. Meaning of the code is the same as
of '-x' command line option.
Recognized values of "sound systems" (case sensitive) are:
c - console buzzer (PC speaker) - default system,
o - OSS,
a - ALSA,
p - PulseAudio,
n - none - no audio,
s - soundcard - cwdaemon will autoselect from OSS/ALSA/PulseAudio.
You may experience few seconds of delay (~4 s) when switching from
ALSA or PulseAudio to OSS audio system. This is because OSS waits
until audio device stops being blocked by ALSA or PulseAudio.
Values describing unknown sound systems, or sound systems that are
unavailable on current platform, are silently ignored. Requesting such
a sound system results in not switching to another sound system, but
keeping with last valid one.
NOTE: future versions of cwdaemon may also accept other values,
describing newly added support for other audio systems.
<ESC>"g"<"volume">
Set volume of sound on soundcard, in percents of maximum volume.
Allowed values are between 0 and 100. Values outside of this range are
silently ignored.
This code does not affect volume of sound played by console buzzer.
<ESC>"h"<"opt.text">
cwdaemon sends back "h", and "opt.text" (if provided), to logging
program when keying is done. "opt.text" is optional. TBD
