ding for Debian
---------------
The official ding program does not allow to run with words given in
the command line. I patched ding, to also work with a word or phrase
given on the command line.
This feature can be combined with the program printbuffer which simply
prints the text you marked with your mouse in some X11 window. Now you
can run
ding `printbuffer`
and a ding window pops up, with a translation of the marked
word/phrase.
I have stolen printbuffer from Steak 1.6
(http://www.tm.informatik.uni-frankfurt.de/~razi/steak/steak.html). I
did not yet include it as a binary but only the source, which can be
found in /usr/share/doc/ding/contrib/printbuffer.c
Simply compile it with
gcc -I/usr/X11R6/include -L/usr/X11R6/lib -lXt -lX11 printbuffer.c -o printbuffer
Now you may want to use this in your favorite window manager. I
personally configured the following for fvwm2:
Style "Ding" Icon /usr/X11R6/include/X11/pixmaps/dbook.xpm, \
MiniIcon /usr/X11R6/include/X11/pixmaps/mini-dbook.xpm
Key Print A N Exec ding `printbuffer`
Now you can mark some word or phrase using your mouse and than press
the "Print" key and ding pops up showing a translation of it.
I don't know whether this can be realized in a similar way with other
window managers. If you find out how to do so, please let me know and
I'll add the description here.
