Getting doom1.wad:

To play doom, you will need to get doom1.wad from somewhere. Visit
http://jcomm.uoregon.edu/~stevev/Linux-DOOM-FAQ.html for details. I hope to
provide a package of doom1.wad in the future, but I need to straighten out
the copyright first. Once you have doom1.wad, place it in any directory, and
before playing doom, set DOOMWADDIR to point to the directory doom1.wad is
in. This same procedure will work for other doom wads, should you happen to
own them.

Notes:

 * For multi-user support, this debian package of doom comes with a wrapper
script, /usr/games/doom, which creates a ~/.doom/ directory. It makes
symlinks in this directory to the doom wad files that are in the
directory pointed to by DOOMWADDIR. The idea behind this is to let you
have your own saved games, let you copy in your own .wad files, etc.

 * If you have an 8 bit sound card, the debian package has special support
for 8 bit sound now! It should autodetect your 8 bit sound card, but if
   that fails, use "doom -8bit".

 * To use your own wad files with doom, place them in ~/.doom/ and pass
"-file <filename>" to doom to make it load them, if necessary.

 * See the doom(6) man page for other options.
