Experimental IPV6 support in Exim
=================================

This file contains notes on the experimental IPv6 support contained in this
release of Exim. It has been tried only on the operating systems mentioned
below.

Solaris 2
---------

Sun's release 5.2 of its prototype IPv6 code for Solaris 2.5 and 2.5.1 was used
for testing. Current problems:

(1) Finding the complete list of active interfaces gives only those configured
with IPv4 addresses. It is best, therefore, to use Exim's local_interfaces
option to specify all the interfaces explicitly, both IPv4 and IPv6.

(2) Ident callbacks have been made to work by modifying libident, but not
yet fully tested on v6-to-v6 connections.

Linux
-----

Much of the code was first developed on a Linux system by Philip Blundell, but
the latest arrangement of it by me has not yet been re-tested.
