Yes you've guessed it, it's an Explorer just like the one for
Windows95 (tm).

                             WARNING
                      =====================

The current version is > 0.70 this means that all basic file operations
are enabled. This also means that they might not always work. So be very
carefull what you do with a developers version!!!!!. We are NOT responsible
if you accidentally damage your system in any way.

The 0.70 version does NOT ask you if you want to copy/move/delete it
will just do it. so be CAREFULL running it as root.

Also we are now using Qt 1.2 and we are using specific features of the
1.2 versions so the 1.1 and older versions won't work anymore with
the 0.68c and higher of the Linux Explorer.

                            COMPILING
                      =====================

If you want to compile this program yourself, make sure you have
Qt installed ( Also see the file INSTALL.qt )

(
  Qt is available at:
  www:    http://www.troll.no
  email:  info@troll.no
)

Read the file INSTALL this should cover all compiling issues.

                          INSTALLATION
                     ======================

The Linux Explorer needs the environment variable EXPLOREDIR to be
set to the directory where the Explorer can be found.
All icons used by the program are available in raw format. If you
want to change them then please do, but do notify us please.

If you do install explorer, you don't need the EXPLOREDIR environment
variable.

When you copy the explorer program to the installation directory
then do not forget to copy the "icons" directory to that installation
directory. You can also do a:

  make install

This program was originally written as a data tree explorer for the
MindsEye project, which can be found at: http://www.ptf.hro.nl/mindseye

If you are running fvwm95 ( which is not a bad idea if run this
program ) then you might want to set a Style entry in your
.fvwm2rc95 .For example:

Style "explorer" Icon mini-expl.xpm

A mini icon for the Explorer can be found in the
directory icons, called: mini-expl.xpm Copy this icon to your bitmap or
pixmap directory so fvwm95 can find it. You might also want to add an
entry in your start menu, for example:

+ "explorer%mini-expl.xpm%"      Exec /usr/local/explorer/explorer &

In the directory icons/win_man/ you will find several icons for
different window mangagers. Copy one of these icons to the icon named
expl_01.bmp to activate that icon on your desktop. The default icon
is the one for fvwm95

A lot of things in the program can be changed, all icons you see are
just .bmp files, which you can find in the icons directory. You
are free to change or alter them. I don't mind if you change the about
bitmap, but please leave the copyright statement and the Linux logo
intact.

If you do decide to change some icons, then remember that the size of
these images is fixed. You can change the contents and colors and so
on but not the size.

                               USAGE
                            ===========

Well there is not much to say, if you have used the windows version
then you know how this program works ( exactly the same ) If you
are a true UNIX user then you might need some time to get the hang
of it.

Symbolic links are not followed when it contains a directory. All
links will be displayed as files with a somewhat different icon then
the default file icon.

                         DEVELOPMENT NOTES
                      =======================

I've tried to keep the code as contained as possible, so it should
not be difficult to remodel the data_tree code so that it can be
used as a standalone Qt widget.

( as of version 0.5 the Qt widgets are more or less complete )

If you remodel any of the source code or add something to it then
please notify me.

The Linux Explorer can be downloaded from:
http://jungfrau.ptf.hro.nl/explorer/download.html

                               NOTE!
                            ===========

This program is in no way based on any source code of the original
Windows95 Explorer. All source code and principles are new. The only
part of the program that was copied was the look of the interface
and the layout.

                             Disclaimer
                            ============

We can not be held responsible for personal taste :)

This software also contains material from Tim D. Gilman <tdgilman@best.com>
(which we had to alter slightly because of some new C/C++ scoping rules.)
