ça alors Fet est le meilleur logiciel au monde pour la gestion des emplois du temps. Il est très flexible, je le conseille vivement aux universités mais pourvu qu'ils encouragent le projet en faisant un don.

What seemed a journey to purgatory---timetable generation for three university courses (115 subjects with 158 activities and +100 time and room constraints) in 5 days---became an enjoyable task.

Definitely the most powerful timetabling software out there. Our school has extremely complex requirement, and FET is the only program, free or not, that can produce a solution.

Glad to finally see an open source project for this. As a college student I always had issues with scheduling, thinking there would be a program to help, but hadn't considered the other side as much, except for advising other students.
Hoping to spend more time on this for a project.

I happened to search this free program. Thanks to the author and all other contributors. I have used it to generate my school time table for 66 teachers, with various constrains. The program is friendly in the sense that it is easy to modify the entries, and also to add similar entries/constrains. I got my time table in slightly more than 3 mins. Many thanks again.

We used fet 5.8.0 for scheduling our classes for Jan 2009 Semester. Very good program. Could do with some more features like manual editing of generated schedules.

Keep up the good work.

hi all,
tomorrow we are starting the school year with the timetables generated with FET 5.6.2

The timetables have come up 100% normative compliant and 98% teachers' wishes respected. It was a very difficult timetable with many subjects with different teachers and groups, and space constraints, etc

Thanks very much for your work and for sharing it.

Finally, I got the nearly perfect timetable with FET :) :) :)
I have download it two years ago, but I was unable to use it. it was confusing for me by it's interface and terminology

Now, thanks to help and care of board administrators, and after flooding the board with too many questions in just two days!!! :-[ I get familiar with FET
I managed to generate nearly a perfect timetable, witch is 100% compatible with national educational standarts; It respect 98 % ( maybe more) of teacher's wiches

The most astonishing thing is that FET solved the timetable in less than 2 munites !!
From my past experience, such timetable means a lot of hard working for both PC and human !!

I'm impressed by quality of FET's algorithm! It can find the road to a good timetable, like a clever hunting dog... It's a pleasure for me to translate in italian the GUI. Thank you!

It is great that free software for schools does have such a good software. I strongly recommend to schools to use ATutor, OpenAdmin, FET and eXe. That is a MUST for any school.

Our department has been using FET for almost a year now to schedule both exams and semesters. It has been excellent at its job. We especially appreciated the logic of "collect data first, generate everything last", which forces people to give good time requirements early.

Being also open, its use is a no-brainer for universities.

I have stumbled upon this last year.Marvelous! But I have a problem. Here we have up to 10 periods
for some subjects and a 5 1/2 day week with 8 periods daily.Obviously some days have 2 periods
of the same subject, which teachers do not want continously. How to add a gap of minimum 2 periods
between same subject?

I had been using this software for preparing time table for last two years. The earlier versions
were very slow. But now that problem has been overcome and it took less than one minute to generate
time table with more tha 800 activities. Thank you very much

I came across FET when I was almost desperate about the schedule for the following semester, as I
have been (manually- pencil+paper) working on it for a record three weeks, with no proper solution
in sight. I did not use FET from the first moment, as I had previously tried other
timetable-generating softwares, with no positive results. But I begun studying FET. It takes a
while to learn it, but you will discover something new each time you use it.

The last schedule built with FET took only about 10 days of hard work, so FET at least halved
the time required for the timetabling activity. And I can't wait to try the new features this fall;)

I have used FET in our agricultural college and it works fine, it has made my job a lot easy.
however I would like to make the following suggesions.

(1) on data entry: it would be best if it could accept data in a database table format, by
copy/pesting fields from databases and so on.
(2) on data out put: it is best if its out put could be in a database format also: because
schools and universities usually have a lot of ways of presenting their time tables and also
a lot of differnet queries; like searching by specific courses being offered and so on.

I think the folloing would make a GREAT difference for a lot of users.
(2)

It's 2 years since I discovered FET. It was brilliant then, and free! Its speed has improved
a lot in the meantime and it is easier to use. And it's still free!

I started to use FET 1 month ago for generating timetables for my faculty. Really FET gives me better results than other software (I tried with tablix). It gives me results! I'm very impressed.
One missing feature for me are buildings and building changes between classes.

The software is really bad in help.
Then, after I play around,it is simple but very powerful.I mainly use it to make my own subject timetable.

I love it.

I like your program very much. Please make in 5.0.0 time constraint - activity ends day- as it was in 4.2.8. Without it i can1t make timetable for my school

I use your soft for timetable generating in Chambéry University (France). Simple, powerfull and open source.

Why not used a real platform for the soft development (like gna.org) ?

Bye.

This software is the most flexible timetabling software, i have ever seen. Generally, these kinds of software about timetabling have their own constants. You can not rule the software, but the software dictates you its own limited frame.
However, with FET, you can add-remove any constarints at your timetable, because it has very generic and modular commands. The use of these commands is like an usual computer programming activity.

The only problem at my FET experience is that, the software could not solve the conflicts in a meaningful time, whenever the number of activities and constraints added, exceeded hundreds. The algoritm must be continuesly improved in order to get the software to operate like the practical style of human judgement.

This is a great piece of software and a very good example of the huge potential genetic algorithms have.

I never thaught making timetables might be such a difficult task when i was a kid .. but with this thing even a kid can make timetable for the whole school.

The software looks very good. It's a pity that there isn't a multi-user interface. At our university multiple people are in charge of planning. It would be great if the program could use a central database.

I have tested your software using our University's time-tabling data.
Any advice in developing a good front-end web-based for your fet program?

The comments are :

a) Generally it's an excellent program for time tabling although it takes a long time to run before we can get the results.

b) You should upgrade the interface to allow users to update/modify the data that have been keyed in.

c) It's good to consider having options to keep the input and output data in MySQL database, besides xml.

d)I hope the fet will continue to be an Open-source program in the future.
