I came across FET when I was almost desperate about the schedule for the following semester, as I
have been (manually- pencil+paper) working on it for a record three weeks, with no proper solution
in sight. I did not use FET from the first moment, as I had previously tried other
timetable-generating softwares, with no positive results. But I begun studying FET. It takes a
while to learn it, but you will discover something new each time you use it.

The last schedule built with FET took only about 10 days of hard work, so FET at least halved
the time required for the timetabling activity. And I can't wait to try the new features this fall;)

I have used FET in our agricultural college and it works fine, it has made my job a lot easy.
however I would like to make the following suggesions.

(1) on data entry: it would be best if it could accept data in a database table format, by
copy/pesting fields from databases and so on.
(2) on data out put: it is best if its out put could be in a database format also: because
schools and universities usually have a lot of ways of presenting their time tables and also
a lot of differnet queries; like searching by specific courses being offered and so on.

I think the folloing would make a GREAT difference for a lot of users.
(2)

It's 2 years since I discovered FET. It was brilliant then, and free! Its speed has improved
a lot in the meantime and it is easier to use. And it's still free!

I started to use FET 1 month ago for generating timetables for my faculty. Really FET gives me better results than other software (I tried with tablix). It gives me results! I'm very impressed.
One missing feature for me are buildings and building changes between classes.

The software is really bad in help.
Then, after I play around,it is simple but very powerful.I mainly use it to make my own subject timetable.

I love it.

Why not used a real platform for the soft development (like gna.org) ?

Bye.

This software is the most flexible timetabling software, i have ever seen. Generally, these kinds of software about timetabling have their own constants. You can not rule the software, but the software dictates you its own limited frame.
However, with FET, you can add-remove any constarints at your timetable, because it has very generic and modular commands. The use of these commands is like an usual computer programming activity.

The only problem at my FET experience is that, the software could not solve the conflicts in a meaningful time, whenever the number of activities and constraints added, exceeded hundreds. The algoritm must be continuesly improved in order to get the software to operate like the practical style of human judgement.

I have tested your software using our University's time-tabling data.
Any advice in developing a good front-end web-based for your fet program?

The comments are :

a) Generally it's an excellent program for time tabling although it takes a long time to run before we can get the results.

b) You should upgrade the interface to allow users to update/modify the data that have been keyed in.

c) It's good to consider having options to keep the input and output data in MySQL database, besides xml.

d)I hope the fet will continue to be an Open-source program in the future.
