Hey, Emacs, we're -*-Text-*- mode!
ftape-doc, version 1.00, Copyright (C) 1998 Claus-Justus Heine
The `ftape-doc' package comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY; for details
see the file `COPYING'. This is free documentation for free software,
and you are welcome to redistribute it under certain conditions; see
the file `COPYING'.
This is the ftape-4.x-doc package, for use with the ftape-4.x floppy
tape device driver for Linux. This package contains some documentation
for the device driver ftape.
NOTE:
This package alone does not suffice to use your floppy tape
streamer. You need the `ftape' device driver as well. See
`Downloading' below.

1. Documentation contained in this package
==========================================
The Ftape Installation and Usage Guide
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You find it in the subdirectory `./ftape-manual/'
The Ftape-FAQ
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Ftape Frequently Asked Questions collection. The official
location is
http://www.correct.nl/~ftape
The Ftape-FAQ package is maintained by
jo@correct.nl (Johan De Wit)
He is busy at the moment, and as I seemingly became a
automake/autoconf fetishist I have included it here until he
is back
The Ftape-HOWTO
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The ftape HOWTO sgml sources. The official location is
http://sunsite.unc.edu/LDP/HOWTO/Ftape-HOWTO.html
2. Configuration options
========================
Please refer to the file `INSTALL' in this directory for generic
installation instructions. This chapter simply lists the additional
options which are understood by the `configure' script in this
directory; if you never before have used GNU autoconf generated
configure scripts then you really should read the file `INSTALL'
first. `configure --help' will give you almost the same description as
given below. The defaults for each options are given in square
brackets. PREFIX refers to the installation prefix, i.e. the directory
into which's subdirectories this package will be installed (can be
tuned with `configure --prefix=PREFIX')
Formatting the documentation
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Pre-formatted documentation can be obtained from my web page (see
below) in case you want to make hardcopies and can't format the
documents yourself. If you want to make hardcopies then you need to
use the `--enable-postscript' option. See below. The following
extra-configuration options are available for this package (default
values are given in square brackets).
--with-faqhtmldir where the FAQ html documentation should be
installed. [DATADIR/ftape-faq/html]
--with-howtohtmldir where the HOWTO html documentation should be
installed. [DATADIR/ftape-howto/html]
--with-manualhtmldir where the ftape-manual html documentation should
be installed. [DATADIR/ftape-manual/html]
--with-manualsgmldir where the ftape-manual sgml documentation should
be installed. [DATADIR/ftape-manual/sgml]
--with-papersize paper size to use, either a4 or letter [a4]
--with-pslatex use postscript fonts for LaTeX. This
requires the pslatex package. Only meaningful
for the SGML derived formatted documentation [yes]
--enable-postscript Create and install a Postscript version of
the manual as well. Have a good look at the
`--with-papersize' option. Pre-formatted
versions in either Letter or A4 format can
be downloaded from the ftape home page (see
below) [disabled]
--with-info2html info-to-html url to use for inforef macros in
TeXinfo source code.
[http://localhost/cgi-bin/info2html]
--disable-localdocs don't use locally installed versions of the
Ftape-FAQ and the Ftape-HOWTO in hyper-links.
If you leave this enabled and simply type
"make install" in this directory, then the
HTML version of the manual will reference
the locally installed documents rather than
the official places, but additionally point
to the official location using footnotes.
[enabled]
--enable-manualsgml-docs install sgml derived documentation even when
the same format can be derived directly from
the TeXinfo source code (PS, HTML) [no]
