通过“导入色板”可以以渐变或图像中的颜色创建新的色板，它会唤出一个“导入色板”对话框，其中有如下选项：

<p><b>选择来源. </b>>
可以从 GIMP 一个渐变(从相连菜单中选取)，或任何当前打开的图像(从相连菜单中选取)中导入一个色板。在 GIMP 2.2 中还可以导入被许多 Microsoft Windows 程序使用的 RIFF 色板文件(扩展名为 <tt class="filename">.pal</tt>)。

<p><b>色板名字. </b>
这里可以给新建色板一个名字。如果选择的名字已经被现有色板使用了，会在该名字后添加一个数字(比如“#1”)使其名字是唯一的。

<p><b>颜色数量. </b>
这里选定色板中颜色的数量。默认为 256，其原因是：(1) 每个渐变有 256 种不同的颜色; (2) GIF 文件最多为 256 色; (3) GIMP 索引图像最多有 256 中不同颜色。不过可以在这里输入您想要的任何数量：即使指定数量超过渐变或图像中的颜色范围，GIMP也会自动分隔它们。

在这里设定色板列数，它只影响色板如何显示，而与色板的使用无关。
