4.8 Verbose Operation</A>

<P>
Most of the programs take an optional <B>-V</B> argument
which will run the program in the ``verbose'' mode. Verbose
will write to standard error information about the progress
of the operation you are running. Verbose reports things
such as counts of points read, names of data files
processed, convergence of iterative solutions, and the like.
Since these messages are written to <I>stderr</I>, the
verbose talk remains separate from your data output.
