This package contains <I>gshhs</I><A NAME="12709"></A> which you can use to extract
shoreline polygons from the Global Self-consistent Hierarchical High-resolution
Shorelines (GSHHS) available separately from <A NAME="tex2html519"
  HREF="http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/mgg/shorelines/gshhs.html">NGDC</A>
or the <A NAME="tex2html520"
  HREF="http://www.soest.hawaii.edu/wessel/gshhs/gshhs.html">GSHHS home page</A>
(GSHHS is the polygon data base from which
the <A NAME="tex2html521"
  HREF="http://www.soest.hawaii.edu/gmt"><B>GMT</B></A> coastlines derive). It also contains <I>gshhs_dp</I><A NAME="12717"></A>
for cleverly decimating a shoreline, and <I>gshhstograss</I><A NAME="12722"></A> to convert shoreline
segments to the GRASS database format.
The package is maintained by Paul Wessel.
