                   ***GNOMERMIND INSTALLATION***

Hi!
just a couple of words before the `generic' instructions...
But before all... thanx for choosing to evaluate GnomerMind! :))

1) Where to get it

The web site is at:

 http://gnomermind.sourceforge.net

While you can download the latest `stable' version at:

 https://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=20068

You can get the Debian package at

 http://packages.debian.org/gnomermind

(thanx to Tom Cato Amundsen)

If you want the latest version, just write me (see AUTHORS),and I'll
send you a patch. I'm trying to update it as often as possible, so
probably the patch won't be *too* different from the latest release
tough...

http://packages.debian.org/gnomermind

2) Requirements & environment

The program currently depends on:

- Gnome libs > 1.0.59
- Gdk-Pixbuf

Another requisite is a working ESound installation; this isn't mandatory,
as if you don't have it, sound support won't be built.

These are the conditions under which it has been compiled successfully.
At least, the ones I think are relevant; if you have these, you should
be able to compile it flawlessly; if not, probably you'll be able to
all the same... if you manage, please let me know, and I'll add your
configuration to this list.

Platform: Linux

Requisite	Min.version	Max.version	Notes
-----------------------------------------------------
Glib/GTK+	1.2.6 1.2.10 (2)
Gnome-libs	1.2.4 1.2.13
Gdk-Pixbuf	0.9.0 0.11.0
ESound 0.2.20 0.2.22
-----------------------------------------------------
make 3.78.1 3.79.1
gcc 2.91.66 2.96
-----------------------------------------------------
Sawfish 0.30.3 0.38
IceWM 1.0.6 1.0.7 (1)
Enlightenment	0.15.5 0.15.5

Notes:

 (1) bug using IceWM <= 1.0.6 & gnomermind <= 0.6.0
 (2) problem using Glib/GTK+ >= 1.2.9 & gnomermind <= 0.7.0

3) Quick install

3a) Tarballs

Just unpack the archive, CD to the dir, and follow the regular way:

e.g.

[mano@localhost mano]$ tar xIf gnomermind-x.x.x.tar.bz2
[mano@localhost mano]$ cd gnomermind-x.x.x
[mano@localhost gnomermind-x.x.x]$ ./configure --prefix=/usr
[mano@localhost gnomermind-x.x.x]$ make
[mano@localhost gnomermind-x.x.x]$ make install

To uninstall, simply type `make uninstall'!

HINT: to install the program accordingly to the others GNOME
elements, run

gnome-config --prefix

and give the result as prefix in ./configure, above.

3b) ./configure arguments

There are two arguments to ./configure that aren't the standard
ones:

--disable-esd-sound

This will disable the sound support, forcing the scripts to
compile the game without the part that enables sounds. This
will make the game a little faster - VERY little.

--enable-g-asserts

This will enable various g_assert() that control the code
integrity. See HACKING for more. This may be useful if you
find a bug, but it also slows the game.

3c) RPMs

Just install it in the normal way. I's only 1 file. As root give:

[mano@localhost mano]$ rpm -Uvh gnomermind-x.x.x-x.xxx.rpm

To build an RPM package from the tarball, download the gzipped one
and give:

rpm -tb gnomermind-x.x.x.tar.gz

This will build the binary RPM package in the proper directory
(usually /usr/src/RPM/RPMS or /usr/src/redhat/RPMS)

3d) Debian

If you are running on a debian machine with access to the net, or to a
cd with debian packages, you just run this as root:

        apt-get install gnomermind

and then the program and all libs it need will get downloaded and
installed.

If you download the package with another program, if you for example has to
download it on a windows box, do this as root:

        dpkg -i debianfile_filename.deb

(thanx to Tom Cato Amundsen for these instructions... :)

4) Mailing List

For any question or proposal even slightly related to GnomerMind
you are welcome to subscribe to our gnomermind-devel mailing list; simply
go to

http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/gnomermind-devel

and follow the info you'll find there...

	Ciao!
		Mano :)
