For installation support, please read the INSTALL file.
GShare is a GNOME-based application for file sharing.
GShare is split across two applications: one application that serves
the file and runs in the background (daemon) and a GUI application
that the user can execute to change the options of the daemon.
File transfers are based on the FTP protocol, so that when the daemon is
started, it's announced on the ZeroConf network and other users can see the
shared folder right in Nautilus Network. Mac users will also be able the
share in their Safari bookmarks (I think). Windows users will have to
install the Bonjour application made available by Apple.
Bonjour for Windows is available here:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/bonjourforwindows102.html
The first time the application runs, a special folder (~/Shared Files) is
created at the user's home directory and this is the root folder of the
FTP server.
To share a file or directory, the user will have to either copy it to
that folder or create a link there (the latter is the best option).
If you don't know how to create a link, please check Nautilus Help,
section "Creating a Symbolic Link to a File or Folder".
If the user is running the GNOME desktop 2.14 or later, an autostart
option is available in the manager, otherwise the user will have to
add the daemon application to the Startup list. To do this, go to the
System/Preferences menu and click on Sessions.
On the Sessions window, choose the Startup Programs panel and click
on the Add button. Insert "gshared" in the Startup Command entry (without
the quotes) and press the OK button. Press the Close button to apply
the changes. The next time you login, the GShare daemon will be executed
and will stay in the background.
To change the GShare options, go to the System/Preferences menu and choose
the "GShare File Sharing" option.
