Introduction

NOTE: This is now for reference only. Shout is the preferred streamer.
iceplay streams a playlist of Mpeg Layer III files to an icecast server.
These files will all be streamed at a bitrate that is specified on
startup (default is 128kbps). If the files are not all encoded at the
specified bitrates, weird things will happen on playback (pauses,
speedups). An easy way to make a playlist is:
find /home/mp3 -name *.mp3 > playlist
This will grab every Mpeg file under /home/mp3 and throw it into
the file "playlist". iceplay randomly selects a song from
this list, and starts streaming it to the server. After it
finishes the current song, it randomly selects another.
It can also print out song information to a user specified file (default
is "webfile") so that you can include this from web pages. It grabs the
information with a Regular Expression from the filename, so name your
files well, and modify the expression to reflect this. Right now,
iceplay grabs Artist and Song info in this format:
/home/mp3/Arist - Song.mp3
This information will be put in webfile and will look like:
Song by Artist
We think that this is a pretty nifty feature, and we will probably
expand upon this in the near future (jukeboxes, favorite songs, etc).
Since iceplay is a Perl script, it can be easily modified to
suit your needs.

Requires Perl 5 and the Time::HiRes package from CPAN.
Known Issues
~~~~~~~~~~~~
During our tests at 128kbps, we noticed that every once in a while
(althought often enough to be annoying) there is a chirping noise.
This is probably because some data is being skipped somewhere...
We think that this is a problem with Perl, in that it is not fast
enough to keep up with a 128kbps stream.
