KNOWN ISSUES

The following provides a brief description of currently known issues or 
problems frequently encountered by users.  If a defect # is provided, 
you can find additional or updated information by visiting 
http://bughost.org and entering the defect number as indicated.


802.1x - Unable to authenticate with Cisco Network-EAP access point
---------------------------     

The current version of the driver does not support setting the 802.1x 
authentication algorithm to anything other than Open or Shared Key.  
This means that connections to access points configured to only support 
Network-EAP authentication is not possible.

As a work around, enable your Access Point to use Open authentication.


System hang if ACPI disabled
---------------------------     

There is currently a problem with interrupt routing if you disable ACPI 
via the acpi=off kernel load parameter.

As a work around, do not disable ACPI.

Defect #576


Can not change channels in Ad-Hoc (IBSS) mode
---------------------------     

Attempt to change the channel while in ad-hoc mode may occassionally result in a
Device Busy error message being displayed.  If this occurs, simply try again.

NOTE:  Changing channel while in Managed mode (BSS, Infrastructure) is not 
supported.  


No packets! - RF kill switch
---------------------------     

If the module loads, but no packets are transferred you may have a SW based
radio kill switch.  All laptops have some capability to disable the radio
via a button or switch.  On some laptops that switch is physically tied to the
IPW2100; simply toggling the switch should enable the radio.

On other laptops, the switch is a button that when pressed requires some
software driver to send some hardware command to some other piece of hardware
on the laptop, that then controls the radio.

To know if the radio is being disabled via the RF switch, perform the following:

% cat /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ipw2100/*/rf_kill<br>

The reported values mean:

  0 = RF kill not enabled (radio on)
  1 = SW based RF kill active (radio off)
  2 = HW based RF kill active (radio off)
  3 = Both HW and SW RF kill active (radio off)


The ipw2100 driver can not control the state of the HW based RF 
switches.
