<!-- ================================ DESCRIPTION  -->

    <refsect1 id="description"><title>Description</title>
        <para>
          <function>mul24</function> multiplies two 24-bit integer values
          <varname>x</varname> and <varname>y</varname>. <varname>x</varname> and
          <varname>y</varname> are 32-bit integers but only the low 24-bits are used
          to perform the multiplication. <function>mul24</function> should only be
          used when values in <varname>x</varname> and <varname>y</varname> are in the
          range [-2<superscript>23</superscript>, 2<superscript>23</superscript>-1] if
          <varname>x</varname> and <varname>y</varname> are signed integers and in the range [0,
          2<superscript>24</superscript>-1] if <varname>x</varname> and <varname>y</varname>
          are unsigned integers. If <varname>x</varname> and <varname>y</varname> are not in
          this range, the multiplication result is implementation-defined.
        </para>

<!-- ================================ NOTES  -->

    <refsect1 id="notes"><title>Notes</title>
        <para>
          Fast integer functions can be used for optimizing performance of kernels. We
          use the generic type name <type>gentype</type> to indicate that the function can
          take <type>int</type>, <type>int2</type>, <type>int3</type>, <type>int4</type>,
          <type>int8</type>, <type>int16</type>, <type>uint</type>, <type>uint2</type>,
          <type>uint3</type>, <type>uint4</type>, <type>uint8</type>, or <type>uint16</type>
          as the type for the arguments.
        </para>
