Problems using DBD::Informix with Web Servers
=============================================

If you have problems using DBD::Informix in conjunction with a web server,
then abuot 99 times out of 100 the trouble is with the Informix-specific
environment variables such as INFORMIXDIR and INFORMIXSERVER. Web servers
generally control the environment very carefully. These are typically not
set by the web server nor passed through by the web server even if they are
in the web server's environment when you start it. If you want your
DBD::Informix script to see the Informix environment variables, set them in
the web server configuration.

With Apache, study the SetEnv and (less importantly) PassEnv directives.
Use SetEnv; do not use PassEnv unless you are sure you know what you are
doing and you know why it might cause you troubles and you understand
clearly that you won't get much sympathy if it turns out that you have
used it and it is the cause of the trouble..

The other problem that can occur is with permissions; the web server is
typically running as a low-privileged user (eg nobody).
