.SH DESCRIPTION
array_cate is like array_cat, but uses only byte positions \fIpos\fR
through \fIstop\fR-1 in \fIy\fR. It fails if \fIpos\fR negative, or if
\fIstop\fR is smaller than \fIpos\fR, or if the number of initialized
bytes in \fIy\fR is smaller than \fIstop\fR.
