Linux Letters and Numbers comes with multiple langauge support. It uses GNU gettext for 
translation of program dialogs and error messages, as well as scripts to install the images 
for your native language. 

You will find a perl script (contibuted by Stephane Bortzmeyer) in the lang
subdirectory called 'translate-lln.pl', which takes the name of a translation
table as a command line argument.  Run this script after you've
installed LLN.  The script expects that the LANG environment variable is set
to your local language. (The two letter abbreviation, ie fr, nl, etc).

The perl script makes symbolic links to the original images, to save space.

For example, 

./translate-lln.pl table-fr_FR.ISO-8859-1

if you have LANG='fr_FR.ISO-8859-1'.

When LLN starts, it first checks if there is a '/usr/share/lletters/LANG/images' 
directory, where LANG is the LANG environment variable. If it exists, it will use 
that directory, otherwise it uses the default directory - '/usr/share/lletters/images'.

It prints the directory being used on the console when you first fire it up. 

Currently comes with Dutch and French, though they are currently incomplete.
(I have a Dutch gettext library, and a French translation table for the
images) 

TRANSLATION
===========

If you'd like to contribute translations for your language, you will need to
create a translation table for the images (table-LANG), and a gettext .po
file.  

Use the lletters.pot file as a template. It is a .po template file, and
contains empty string definitions for each string used by the program.

Once you've created a new .po file, you will need to recomplile the game.
You may also have to adjust the configure.in file to include your new
language.

The GNU gettext info documents contain more details about gettext, as well
as autoconf and automake.

When it works, sent me copies of the completed files, so others may enjoy
your work.
