It was downloaded from http://www.gtk.org/tutorial/gtk_tut-2.html#ss2.1
(the code was copy/pasted and altered from the GTK v1.2 Tutorial)

Authors of the tutorial: Tony Gale <gale@gtk.org>, Ian Main <imain@gtk.org>

Jim Lynch <jwl@debian.org> simply replaced "hello world" with "log out".

The example .xsession (/usr/doc/logout-button/example.xsession) is a
rewrite of the part of /etc/X11/Xsession which would execute in place of
the user's .xsession file. That piece of code is quoted in the example to
show what the default behavior is. The global Xsession file could have been
written by any of The XFree86 Project, Branden Robinson, Mark W. Eichin, or
Stephen Early. Some of the loops I used were more-or-less derived from the
code in the quote.
