Der Parameter
.I sockfd
ist ein \(lqsocket\(rq.
Wenn es vom Typ
.BR SOCK_DGRAM
ist, dann beschreibt dieser Parameter den \(lq Verbindungspartner\(rq
mit/über welchen der \(lqsocket\(rq in Verbindung gebracht wird.
Diese Adresse ist die, zu der \(lqdatagrams\(rq gesendet werden, und die
einzigste Adresse, von der \(lqdatagrams\(rq empfangen werden können.
Wenn das \(lqsocket\(rq vom Typ
.B SOCK_STREAM
ist, wird dieser Aufruf versuchen, eine Verbindung zu einem anderen
\(lqsocket\(rq aufzubauen.  Das andere \(lqsocket\(rq wird durch
.BR serv_addr ,
welches die Adresse innerhalb des Kommunikations-Adressraumes des
\(lqsocket\(rq bezeichnet, festgelegt.  Jeder derartige Adressraum
interpretiert
.BR serv_addr
Parameter auf seine eigene Weise.

Generell sollten \(lqstream sockets\(rq nur einen
.B connect
benutzen.

\(lqDatagram sockets\(rq können mit aller Warscheinlichkeit

öfter verwenden. \(lqDatagram sockets\(rq werden beim Verbinden mit
unzulässigen Adressen mit aller Wahrscheinlichkeit eine \(lqnull addresse\(rq
zur Fehlerbehandlung zurückgeben.

Wird die Verbindung zufriedenstellend Hergestellt, so wird eine

zurückgegeben, im Fehlerfall wird \-1 zurückgegeben.
