meta-gnome2 (37) unstable; urgency=low
* This version of meta-gnome2 introduces a few new meta packages which
should make the dependencies a bit more flexible and should be better
for those not wanting to install lots of the dependencies that were
pulled in by gnome-core in the past.
The new meta-packages are the following:
- gnome-core: provides the very basic components to get a working GNOME
environment installed.
- gnome-desktop-environment: provides all the modules included in the
official GNOME Desktop release.
- gnome-fifth-toe: provides the modules included in GNOME Fifth Toe,
a collection of programs that aren't included in the Desktop release for
some reason, but are high quality, adhere to GNOME standards and are
very popular. Not all the applications included in the last Fifth Toe
release are listed in the dependencies. If you find something very useful
is missing (from gnome-fifth-toe or some other metapackage), please
discuss it in debian-gtk-gnome@lists.debian.org.
- gnome-office: includes most of the applications included in the GNOME
Office suite.
- gnome-core-devel: libraries and basic GNOME development modules. Hasn't
changed much.
- gnome-devel: development tools such as IDEs, User Interface designers,
translation tools, etc.
- gnome: includes gnome-core + gnome-desktop-environment + a few other
random, useful modules like rhythmbox, etc.
If you want to keep getting the full GNOME Desktop release installed
automatically in Debian, be sure to install the new
gnome-desktop-environment package, and similarly for the other package
groups.
