						README for Linux users

Some Linux systems (i.e., some X servers on some systems) have problems with
mxv's popup windows. If you are using the Fvwm window manager, you should
turn off the auto-raise feature. If your system freezes up after selecting a
command from a menu, this is probably the problem.

If you have limited memory on your machine (i.e., under 16Mb RAM), you should
probably use the Memory Options command to set your own upper bounds on memory
use. See the mxv.doc file for more information.

For those who wish to compile MXV under Linux themselves

Compiling MiXViews and InterViews under Linux proved to be a major challange.
The compiler flags in the Imakefile should be correct for the MiXViews source,
but additional work may be needed to compile the InterViews library in such a
way that it does not crash. Before compiling any of InterViews, make
sure that there is a iv-linux.cf file in the InterViews config directory. In
this file, or in the local.def file, make sure that the following flags:

-DXDisplay=_XDisplay -fkeep-inline-functions -mieee-fp

are made part of the compilation flags for every file (this is the default).
