Help for Satellite Add/Modification

Normally many of the entries for a satellite will be automatically added or
updated from NORAD two line elements that can be found on the Internet. They
can of course be entered manually through these screens. If entered
manually, care should be taken as the accuracy of the values are very
important, a mistake could cause mtrack to produce inaccurate predictions
for a satellite. If entering a satellite manually, try and ensure that the
Catalogue Number is correct, this is the value used by mtrack to matc with
any later updates.

All of the data is entered as supplied, the only entries that are not
entered via the two-line element sets are:

1. Categories
2. Alon
3. Alat
4. -Z Flag
5. Modes
6. Frequency 1
7. Frequency 2

All of these entries are optional, and may not be relevant for a given
satellite.

The Category is chosen to help when choosing a satellite with the Choose
Satellite dialog box. Careful use of the category can greatly help in
organising the different satellites. A satellite may belong to more than one
category, although some combinations are not meaningful, a satellite cannot
be both Geostationary and LEO at the same time for example. Mtrack does not
enforce any silly category choices.

The Alon/Alat/-Z Flag are specifically for use with amateur Molniya orbit
satellites, at present that means AO-10 and AO-40. The values for ALON and
ALAT are published regularly on the Internet and should be entered "as is".
The "-Z Flag" is set for AO-40 which has its antennas on the same side as
its motor.

The Modes are used to indicate which operating mode is in operation when.
The modes may be set by MA value (AO-10, AO-40) or by day (Fuji). The format
for an MA mode set is given in the following examples:

000:Off 040:UL1 120:Rudak 160:UL1 200:Off

This means that between MA 0 and 40 the satellite is Off (actually from MA
200 to 40), from MA 40 to 120 it is in mode UL1, from MA 120 to 160 in Rudak
mode and from MA 160 to 200 back in mode UL1. Between MA 200 and 255 it is
off, and the cycle repeats. For a satellite like AO-10 which is always in
one mode (B) an entry like:

000:B

will suffice.

For the Fuji satellites, the mode is based on the day of the week. For
example:

Mon:J Tue:Dig Wed:J Thu:Dig Fri:J Sat:Dig Sun:Off

meaning that the satellite will be in mode J on Monday, Wednesday, and
Friday. In digital mode on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, and off on
Sunday.

Frequency 1 and Frequency 2 are frequencies in use on the satellite for
which doppler calculations will be performed. The frequencies are entered in
MHz.
