Results of a search are displayed in the <b class="bterm">Research</b> task pane. </div><p><a href="#" class="DropDown" onclick="Outline2()" onkeypress="Outline2()"><img border="0" src="blueup.gif" alt="Show">provider</a></p><div id="ExpCol" class="collapsed" border="0">A provider is a source of research content typically accessed through an external URL or internal server address. A provider may offer one or more research services.</div><p><a href="#" class="DropDown" onclick="Outline2()" onkeypress="Outline2()"><img border="0" src="blueup.gif" alt="Show">query</a></p><div id="ExpCol" class="collapsed" border="0">Query is the general term for a search on a research service. The Research feature allows users to requery a research service by doing further searching on the same service for a result returned from a previous search.</div><p><a href="#" class="DropDown" onclick="Outline2()" onkeypress="Outline2()"><img border="0" src="blueup.gif" alt="Show">requery</a></p><div id="ExpCol" class="collapsed" border="0">A requery is a search based on a result returned from a previous query, and searches the same research service that returned that result in the prior query. Typically, the user would invoke the requery through a hyperlink in the list of results returned from the prior query. The <b class="bterm">Research</b> task pane would update only the portion of the results under that research service.</div><p><a href="#" class="DropDown" onclick="Outline2()" onkeypress="Outline2()"><img border="0" src="blueup.gif" alt="Show">schema</a></p><div id="ExpCol" class="collapsed" border="0">An XML schema describes the structure of data in an XML document. It is also known as an XML Schema Definition (XSD). It defines the elements, attributes, and their data types in an XML document.</div><p><a href="#" class="DropDown" onclick="Outline2()" onkeypress="Outline2()"><img border="0" src="blueup.gif" alt="Show">SOAP</a></p><div id="ExpCol" class="collapsed" border="0">Simple Object Access Protocol is an XML and HTTP-based protocol for accessing services, objects, and servers in a platform-independent manner.</div><p><a href="#" class="DropDown" onclick="Outline2()" onkeypress="Outline2()"><img border="0" src="blueup.gif" alt="Show">XML</a></p><div id="ExpCol" class="collapsed" border="0">Extensible Markup Language is a metadata definition language used to describe data in a structured open format.
</div><p><a href="#" class="DropDown" onclick="Outline2()" onkeypress="Outline2()"><img border="0" src="blueup.gif" alt="Show">XML Web service</a></p><div id="ExpCol" class="collapsed" border="0">An XML Web service is an application available on the Web that other applications can share, regardless of the platform and the language that the applications use. Generally, an XML Web service performs some common task. Other application developers can subscribe to the Web service without having to implement the code themselves. This is made possible by the open standards that Web services support: XML, SOAP, Web Service Description Language (WSDL), and Universal Description, Discovery and Integration (UDDI).<p>Research services are implemented as XML Web services. A provider offering a research service provides a URL to the Web service.
