</code></pre><h2>Remarks</h2><p>InfoPath requires that a user be associated with only one role at a time.</p><p>If a user creates a new InfoPath document from a form template, that user is assigned to the role specified in the optional <a href="xsfatrinitiator_HV01107604.htm" id="HV01107604" lcid=" "><b class="bterm">initiator</b></a> attribute of the <a href="xsfelmroles_HV01107553.htm" id="HV01107553" lcid=" "><b class="bterm">roles</b></a> element. If no role has been designated as the initiator role, InfoPath assigns the user to the role specified in the <b class="bterm">memberOf</b> attribute of the first entry that corresponds to the user in the membership list of the <b class="bterm">roles</b> element. An entry in the membership list corresponds to a user if any one of the following conditions is true:<ul><li>The name of the user matches the value of the <b class="bterm">name</b> attribute of a <b class="bterm">userName</b> element in the membership list.</li><li>The user is included in a group identified by a <a href="xsfelmgroup_HV01107535.htm" id="HV01107535" lcid=" "><b class="bterm">group</b></a> element in the membership list.</li><li>The name of the user matches a name returned by a <a href="xsfelmgetUserNameFromData_HV01107534.htm" id="HV01107534" lcid=" "><b class="bterm">getUserNameFromData</b></a> element in the membership list.</li></ul></p><p>If no entry for the user is found in the membership list, InfoPath associates the user with the role specified in the <a href="xsfatrdefault.htm" id="HV01021542" lcid=" "><b class="bterm">default</b></a> attribute of the <b class="bterm">roles</b> element.</p><p><p><b>Note</b> This item is not supported when the <b class="ui">Disable Service Pack features</b> option on the <b class="ui">Advanced</b> tab of the <b class="ui">Options</b> dialog box in InfoPath is selected or when Microsoft Office 2003 Editions Service Pack 1 or later is not installed.
