\fI\%MPI_File_set_info\fP is a collective routine that sets new values
for the hints of the file associated with \fIfh\fP\&. These hints are set
for each file, using the \fI\%MPI_File_open\fP, \fI\%MPI_File_delete\fP,
\fI\%MPI_File_set_view\fP, and \fI\%MPI_File_set_info\fP routines. The
opaque \fIinfo\fP object, which allows you to provide hints for
optimization of your code, may be different on each process, but some
\fIinfo\fP entries are required to be the same on all processes: In these
cases, they must appear with the same value in each process’s info
object. See the \fI\%HINTS section\fP
for a list of hints that can be set.

UNIX file between the first byte and the last byte of the
access request causes MPI I/O to iterate and perform
multiple UNIX \fBread()\fP or \fBwrite()\fP calls. If the request
includes multiple noncontiguous chunks of data, and the
buffer size is greater than the size of those chunks, then
the UNIX \fBread()\fP or \fBwrite()\fP (made at the MPI I/O level)
will access data not requested by this process in order to
reduce the total number of \fBwrite()\fP calls made. If this is
not desirable behavior, you should reduce this buffer size
to equal the size of the contiguous chunks within the
aggregate request.

Almost all MPI routines return an error value; C routines as the return result
of the function and Fortran routines in the last argument.

Before the error value is returned, the current MPI error handler associated
with the communication object (e.g., communicator, window, file) is called.
If no communication object is associated with the MPI call, then the call is
considered attached to MPI_COMM_SELF and will call the associated MPI error
handler. When MPI_COMM_SELF is not initialized (i.e., before
\fI\%MPI_Init\fP/\fI\%MPI_Init_thread\fP, after \fI\%MPI_Finalize\fP, or when using the Sessions
Model exclusively) the error raises the initial error handler. The initial
error handler can be changed by calling \fI\%MPI_Comm_set_errhandler\fP on
MPI_COMM_SELF when using the World model, or the mpi_initial_errhandler CLI
argument to mpiexec or info key to \fI\%MPI_Comm_spawn\fP/\fI\%MPI_Comm_spawn_multiple\fP\&.
If no other appropriate error handler has been set, then the MPI_ERRORS_RETURN
error handler is called for MPI I/O functions and the MPI_ERRORS_ABORT error
handler is called for all other MPI functions.
