<table width=550 bgcolor=FFFFFF><tr><td>
Ploticus provides EPS and SVG output formats for pre-press work and publication-quality
graphs.
This may be of interest to those who are preparing graphs
for submission to journals and other publications.
<br>
<br>
<b>EPS</b>
graphics can be imported, viewed, and manipulated by packages such as Freehand,
Photoshop, and Illustrator. Editing of individual graphical components
can be done by opening the file in Illustrator; from there it can be copied
into Freehand.
If no edits are required, the file can be opened in Photoshop by specifying
the resolution required (ie. by a journal), flatten it and save as a TIF
(or just give the journal the EPS file).
<br>
<br>
<b>SVG</b>
is a new vector format that is viewable by browsers and also suitable for
editing and publication purposes. SVG uses high quality fonts and vector graphics.
SVG graphics are viewable by most later browser versions, but a plug-in
may be required. If your browser is displaying the graph, you can download
the SVG file by clicking on the graphic with the right mouse button.
Even if the graph is not displayed, you should still be able to download
the SVG graphic as a file, using <b>File / Save As..</b>.
<br>
<br>
We are still evaluating SVG support in software packages such as Freehand, Photoshop,
and Illustrator, and further enhancement of SVG support by these packages is expected.
MS Office provides limited support for SVG;
to import an SVG file, locate the icon of your SVG file and drag it into the
MS Office application. However, rasterization of the SVG apparently takes place, resulting
in a loss of quality, at least on versions we have (Office 97).
