README for OS/2 $Id: README.OS2,v 1.5 2001/02/12 17:59:53 nordstrom Exp $

               Welcome to Plucker!
               ===================

This files contains instructions appropriate to the OS/2-Version of
Plucker. It would help you to read it carefully.

Please NOTE: This software is BETA. That means that it may contain
errors or may not work as you expected in your environment, although
it's tested quite carefully till now. In case of errors please send us
mail so we'll have the chance to correct them immediatly. It's up to
you how fast errors get discovered. So please help!

Requirements
~~~~~~~~~~~~
OS/2 or OS/2 Warp (tested on Warp 4.0 but should work on older
versions downto at least 2.0 and newer versions too)
Pilot-Link (including the Perl-interface!)
Perl
Python
Installation
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Obviously you've allready unpacked the distribution to some directory.
So just start install_os2.cmd, which will create the necessary program
objects on your desktop an invoke the installation of the viewer to
your Palm. To do this you'll have to tell the install tool where
Plucker should reside and which COM-Port you want to use for
installing the viewer. Invoke Install_OS2 like:

install_os2 E:\PalmPilot\Plucker COM1

--> NOTE: Maybe you'll need to set HOME-environment-variable in you
CONFIG.SYS prior to calling install_os2. To do this simply add a line like

     SET HOME=F:/home

and create the directory F:/home by

F:
md home

if you want to place your HOME on drive F: If you allready use Unix-style
software (GNU-tools, XFree86/2 etc.) this variable may be allready set.
Please be aware that some other tools may be casedependend, which OS/2
normally is not. So use the same case for the directory name as for
the SET-statement. (That is don't set HOME=F:/HOME, when you make a md
home).

If you've any problems with this stuff, feel free to
mailto:a.wagner@teamos2.de.
(You may also use german language.)

Usage
~~~~~
Is quite simple. The webpages you want to retrieve using Plucker are
specified in HOME.HTML residing in you $Home\.plucker directory. The
installation script has placed an object on your desktop inside the
"Plucker for OS/2"-folder for easy access to that file. It's the one
with the newspaper ;) As hte name implies HOME.HTML is pure HTML. For
details about the format of that file consult the documentation
included in this package.
After creating a suitable HOME.HTML you may want to retrieve the data.
Open a connection to the internet using OS/2's dial-function, and
simply start "Plucker Hotsync". If your environment is set up
correctly Plucker starts to retrieve the pages you mentioned in
HOME.HTML.
Current work
~~~~~~~~~~~~

- Pure Perl, no AWK: On the way expected soon
- Improvements in the Viewer: On continued progress

NOTE: Plucker is an open source project under GPL. If you want to
contribute feel free to contact us at via rubberchicken.org. See our
webpage for details!

Errors
~~~~~~
- Did you install Perl correctly?
- Does Python work correclty? (Set the environemnt etc. See Python
  Docs.)
- Did you install Pilot-Link including the perl interface? (Note:
  Perl-interface is not included in normal binary distributions of
  Pilot-Link. Maybe you'll need to compile it yourself!)
- To which COM-port is your Palm connected? If any other than COM1
  you'll need to edit <plucker_install_dir>\conduit\sync.pl
  manually and place the correct COM-port in the header of the file.
- Did the sites you want to retrieve contain frames? This doesn't
  currently work due to limitations within wget.
Still any problems with the OS/2-Version?
