PMS -- Python Mail System
==========================
All mail clients suck. This one isn't.
-- Moshe Zadka, parody of the mutt selling point.
Wasn't PMS known as PMH?
------------------------
Yes, but I found out PMH is PerlMH
What is PMS?
------------
It's as much a mail client as Debian is an operating system, or
EMACS an editor. In other words, it will allow you to write your own mail
client in just a few lines, and will allow you to get as fancy as you
like.
-- PMS.Commands -- a high-level Python module that you can use
from the Python repl or tools such as IDLE.
-- A collection of small programs, to use from the shell.
An important feature is that you can move between the user interfaces
*seamlessly* -- not only configuration information, but also currently
selected folder and message are kept.
Here's a short list of PMS features:
* User defined labels
* Filters by label/sender/subject/thread which can be combined.
* Sorting by date/subject/sender. Sorting by subject disregards leading
RE:'s.
* Merging several folders into one virtual folder
* User-level scriptablility in Python, via well-defined hooks.
* Support for numerous mail (and mail-like) backends: MH folders, POP3,
Maildir, NNTP and PMEP. PMEP stands for PMS Mail Exchange Protocol and is a
simple, lightweight replacement for IMAP. In addition, there is a method
for accessing MH repositories over ssh.
Why Aren't IMAP and MBOX Format Supported?
------------------------------------------
I'd be happy to accept patches for those, but since I don't use either
of them, I don't have any inclination to code this.
How Stable is PMS?
------------------
Pretty stable. There are no documented bugs, and the I use it
as my only e-mail client. Basically, I trust it with all my e-mail,
and I use it exclusively. Current version is 0.2.19
