Use of the postgresql-test package
==================================

The important part of this package is the regression test suite, which is
intended to demonstrate that postgreSQL has been correctly compiled and
installed and is producing the predicted results.

The only difference seen in the i386 version is the absence of certain
NOTICE lines in the trigger test.

Other differences need investigating; they do not necessarily indicate a
problem, but there may be one.

How to use the test suite
-------------------------

The test must be run by the postgres administrator; in the default
state, this account cannot be logged in to directly, so you must become
superuser first.

Run these commands:
   # su - postgres
   $ cd /usr/lib/postgresql/test/regress
   $ make check

If there are any failures: make a nice wide window (200 characters wide,
if you can) and do [the following is bash syntax]:

  $ for f in `grep failed regress.out | awk '{print $1}'`
  > do
  >    echo "
  > $f
  > ============"
  >    sdiff -w200 {expected,results}/$f.out
  > echo
  > done | less

and look for the differences.
