.SH DESCRIPTION
.B pptpctrl
is a program usually run by the PoPToP PPTP daemon,
.BR pptpd (8),
which can also be run from
.BR inetd (8)
if some of the features of
.BR pptpd (8),
such as IP pool management and inbuilt TCP wrappers, are not required.

First option - debugging:
.B 0
to indicate no debugging or
.B 1
to indicate debugging messages should be generated (and sent to
syslog).

Second option - ppp options file:
.B 0
to indicate the default ppp options file (normally
.IR /etc/ppp/options )
should be used or
.BI "1 " options
to indicate the file
.I options
should be used as the ppp options file.

Third option - tty speed:
.B 0
to indicate the default speed (normally
.IR 115200 )
or
.BI "1 " speed
to indicate that the speed passed to the ppp daemon should be
.IR speed .

Fourth option - local IP address:
.B 0
to indicate default (pppd-determined) local IP address (normally
the first ethernet interface's address) should be used or
.BI "1 " local-ip
to indicate the local IP address should be set to
.IR local-ip .

Fifth option - remote IP address:
.B 0
to indicate that pppd should determine the remote IP address or
.BI "1 " remote-ip
to indicate the remote IP address should be set to
.IR remote-ip .

Sixth option - IPX network number:
.B 0
to indicate that either IPX is not used or IPX network numbers are managed by
the PPP daemon or
.BI "1 " ipx-net
to specify a specific IPX network number.

.B pptpctrl
to service incoming pptp connections using the tcp wrapper
.IR /usr/sbin/tcpd .
The options here are no debugging, default pppd options file,
default speed and default IP addresses. The
.I --buffer--
string is ignored and is there to extend the process name
so that the process can change its name to include the client
IP address.

as before, however with debugging enabled, an alternate
config file of

the speed set to

and the local IP address forced to be
.IR 192.168.0.1 .

The
.B pptpctrl
service must be registered as port 1723/tcp for the above examples
to work. On most systems services can be registered by adding them
to
.IR /etc/services .

is returned on bad connection shutdown.
