Printbill for Debian
--------------------
Setting up Printbill on a Debian system should be fairly straightforward.
Printbill has recently been debconf-enabled. This allows us to construct a
printbillrc file automatically. However, at present we still need to create
a few things manually. Once the package is installed, you must manually add
the appropriate lines to your printcap file in order to actually use
printbill. This is thoroughly documented elsewhere.
Once your printcap is ready, restart lprng (/etc/init.d/lprng restart) and
(if you are using the web interface) run pqm --updateprinters (optional).
Then you can start adding users, giving them quota, adding web
administration users etc. Refer to the pqm(1), printbill(8,1), printbilld(1)
and printbillrc(5) man pages to get started.
Since I'm both the author and maintainer of this Debian package I don't
think there's really anything to worry about w.r.t Printbill on Debian i386
(which is my primary OS) and possibly Debian Sparc. AFAIK the percent*
utilities are 64-bit clean and endian-independent. Printbill will always
have good Debian support.
