.TH PTKFINGER 1 "06 June 99"
.SH NAME
ptkfinger \- Perl/Tk Finger Client for X
.SH SYNOPSIS
\fBptkfinger\fP [\fIaddress\fP]
.SH DESCRIPTION
\fIptkfinger\fP is a finger (TCP port 79) client for X, written in Perl/Tk.

Finger is usually used to provide information about a user at a certain host,
but it is also sometimes used to provide a source of other information.

As well as simple finger ability, it also provides an option for long finger
output.
.SS OPTIONS
.TP
\fBaddress\fP
The address to finger (\fIuser\fP for local users, or \fIuser@host\fP).
.SH REQUIREMENTS
ptkfinger requires a fairly up-to-date version of Perl (version 5.002 or
better). It also (obviously) requires Perl/Tk. Perl/Tk is available in the
Nick-Ing Simmons author directory at CPAN. It is also available as a Debian
package.
.SH AUTHOR and BUG REPORTING
ptkfinger was written by Alan Ford <alan@whirlnet.co.uk>
Please report bugs to that address.
.SH SEE ALSO
finger(1), fingerd(8), inetd(8), telnet(1), perl-tk documentation.

The finger (port 79) protocol is defined in RFC1288.
.SH KNOWN BUGS
There have been reports of slightly dodgy output, but I have been unable to
replicate the symptoms myself.
