.TH PTKTIME 1 "06 June 99"
.SH NAME
ptktime \- Perl/Tk Time Client for X
.SH SYNOPSIS
\fBptktime\fP [\fItimeserver\fP]
.SH DESCRIPTION
\fIptktime\fP is a time (TCP port 37) client for X, written in Perl/Tk.

It will compare your system's time with a timeserver on another machine.
.SS OPTIONS
.TP
\fBtimeserver\fP
The remote timeserver to compare times with.
.SH REQUIREMENTS
ptktime requires a fairly up-to-date version of Perl (version 5.002 or
better). It also (obviously) requires Perl/Tk. Perl/Tk is available in the
Nick-Ing Simmons author directory at CPAN. It is also available as a Debian
package.
.SH AUTHOR and BUG REPORTING
ptktime was written by Alan Ford <alan@whirlnet.co.uk>
Please report bugs to that address.
.SH SEE ALSO
inetd(8), telnet(1), perl-tk documentation.

The time (port 37) protocol is defined in RFC868.

A related protocol, daytime, is defined in RFC867.
.SH FUTURE PLANS
At some time I intend to include the facility to set the local machine time to
the timeserver's time.
