<title>DESCRIPTION</title>
<para>This manual page documents briefly the
program <command>&dhpackage;</command>.</para>
<para>This manual page was written for the &debian; distribution
because the original program does not have a manual page.</para>
<para><command>&dhpackage;</command> is Visual Explain, an interactive tool for
visualizing the output of the <application>PostgreSQL</application>
<command>EXPLAIN</command> and <command>EXPLAIN ANALYZE</command>
commands. <command>EXPLAIN</command> and
<command>EXPLAIN ANALYZE</command> show the users the query plan
that a <application>PostgreSQL</application> backend produces for a
given optimizable query. The default form of this plan is a
plain-text tree, which, while easy to read for simple queries,
becomes progressilvely more difficult to interpret as query complexity
increases. By visualizing the text output of
<command>EXPLAIN</command>/<command>EXPLAIN ANALYZE</command> in an
appropriate manner, the difficulty of interpreting query plans
drops significantly.</para>
