Introduction</A>
</H1>
<P>
Shortcomings associated with digital signal processors (DSPs) have led
towards the creation of a DSP-less<A NAME="tex2html4"
HREF="footnode.html#foot142"><SUP>1.1</SUP></A> controller implementation
platform, henceforth referred to as the Real Time Controls Laboratory,
or RTiC-Lab (pronounced Arctic-Lab). This tool is intended to simplify
controller implementation and plant characterization.
<P>
The following sections are set up as follows. First, a description of
envisioned controller requirements is presented. Second, basic theory
associated with Real Time Systems is presented which provide the
foundation for RTiC-Lab. Finally, a general description of the
RTiC-Lab design itself is presented.
