Inserting <TT>rtic.o</TT></A>
</H1>
You can only insert the <TT>rtic.o</TT> module into kernel space when you
are logged in as root. So, on a second window, type the following:
<P><BLOCKQUOTE><TT>su root
</TT>
</BLOCKQUOTE>
<P>
This will prompt you for the root password. Enter the root
password. From this point on, this window will now be used as your
root account. Avoid using this window unless you are either inserting
or removing modules.
<P>
<BLOCKQUOTE>
<B>WARNING</B>: <EM>execution of this and most of the following
commands may open up some security holes. However, most real time
control systems have no business being used in a multi-user networking
environment. You have been warned.</EM>
</BLOCKQUOTE>
<P>
You need to make sure that you have read/write permissions to the real
time FIFOs. So, as root, and if you haven't done so already, type:
<P><BLOCKQUOTE><TT>chmod 666 /dev/rtf?
</TT>
</BLOCKQUOTE>
<P>
Similarly, you need to set similar permissions to <TT>/dev/mbuff</TT> so
that you can use shared memory between real time and non-real time
tasks:
<P><BLOCKQUOTE><TT>chmod 666 /dev/mbuff
</TT>
</BLOCKQUOTE>
<P>
Finally, you can load your module. From the <TT>~rtic-*.*.*/bin</TT>
directory. type:
<P><BLOCKQUOTE><TT>./

start rtic

</BLOCKQUOTE>

This command will load all of the Real Time Linux modules
and will also insert the user module ``<TT>rtic.o</TT>''. Your code is
now ready to run.
